The idea behind the conference

The following questions are pertinent to the focus of the miniconference:

• Why should the world pay attention to what our Holy Books teach?
• Is fundamentalist literalism the only way to preserve the authority of sacred texts?
• How do we make a faithful response to the claims of science?
• Can we balance our own faith tradition’s exclusive readings of Scriptures with the challenge of other world faiths?
• Is Australian society secular, superstitious, spirituality-seeking – or all three?

The conference aim is to stimulate ideas and generate lots of discussion in a relaxed atmosphere.
