121. Anguish
Relief Woodcarving (Blackwood, Cedar and Elm), 25 x 32 cm
$280 - Sold
"Much is happening in our world; much love and hatred. To be spiritually true to ourselves, our God and our world, we must stand up to injustice. This piece represents the rage felt by a person in the turbulent world he lives in. This rage will move him to action with the guidance of his spirit into constructive and positive change."

122. Snugglepot & Cuddlepie
Relief Woodcarving (Blackwood and Huon Pine), 19 x 35 cm
$160 - Sold
"Since May Gibbs conceived the idea of the gumnut characters in 1913, children and adults have been uplifted by their depiction. Australian Spirituality is tied to the bush and its mystique. I have attempted a 'relief carving' image of the characters in Australian timbers adding a third dimension to May's images."

123. Landscape
Photography/Collage, 87 x 29 cm
$200
"This work is composed of 'aleatoric' prints - ie the unintended photos at the end of the roll of film. However, the chance effects, combined as they have been, express the spirit of the Australian landscape - both in its natural state and of the effects of human habitation."
|
|

|
124. Light in August
Photography/Collage, 72 x 30 cm
$200
"This composition of 'aleatoric' prints, expresses the spirit of a place - an Australian room, in early spring - better than a considered arrangement would have."

125. City on a Hill
Acrylic on Canvas, 60 x 90 cm
$750
"The title comes from the words of Christ who described his followers as a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. Inherent in the painting is the idea of the need for balance between the various aspects of the spiritual life, each of which is important but not to be practiced to the exclusion of others."
|
|

|
126. In the Steps of Christ
Acrylic on Craftwood, 59 x 78 cm
$480
"This painting tells the story of the life of Jesus Christ; his birth, the time that he and his family spent as refugees in Egypt when he was a child; his baptism, equipping for ministry by the Holy Spirit; his death and resurrection. The symbolism also describes the life pilgrimage of all those who would seek to follow Christ."

131. Movements of Prayer
Pencil & Ink, 30 x 22 cm
$75 each

|
"The movement of the pictures and their colours are symbolic of the rich pigments and textures which flow out from the desert heart of Australia - as also from the desert heart of humanity - a heart in search of God with a soul's longing for rest."

"We are desperately hungry,
We don't see

Dying to feed us.
(Like a Golden Bower Bird making mansions.)"

135. The Winter Queen
Mixed, 60 cm

"Everyday I am exploring my own spirituality, specifically through my art and puppet making. This allows me the perfect opportunity to manifest this outwardly. The characters I develop spring from the primal soup of humankinds, various mythologies and as archetypes find relevance in our contemporary ideas of self-exploration."

|
137-3. Levitating at the Waters of Life
"The desert can be experienced in numerous ways - awe at the immensity and spectacle of the land, wonder at the fragile textures underfoot and seeing the land as a mapped surface overlaid with the stories and unseen lines of the mythic journeys of Indigenous ancestors or the marks of road, rail and settlement of more recent habitation. The desert stirs the sense and the soul. There is the realisation that the desert has been a place of meeting for people of many cultures and faiths and the desert can be seen as a place of spiritual encounter and renewal."

140. Mother Earth
Textile, 102 x 147 cm
$95
"The mother earth is getting wrecked. I don't like it. More things are getting built. More trees chopped down. You know my people have always loved the earth from the start. We can live without buildings, air conditioning and cars. We communicate with animals, plants and wildlife, we connect with them. We love the bush, fresh air and the sun."

141. Prayer Flags: Kathmandu
Colour Photograph, 19 x 15 cm
$60
"For many young Australians, the images and experiences of travel inform a personal history. This is Boudanath, a Buddhist stupa in Kathmandu in Nepal. Wind takes prayers from the fluttering flags, while Buddha's all-seeing eye watches. There is a powerful sense of worship in the respect, dignity and colour of this ancient faith. I savour such images and memories - they are part of my spirituality."

143. Emptiness is Form
Bronze, 19 x 19 x 10 cm
$550
"This singing bowl is based on the Buddhist teaching of Anata, the realisation arises that no thing has an intrinsic 'self'. Matter arises and ceases in different forms and we name it in the form we see it in, in this moment."
|
|

|
144. Form is Emptiness
Bronze, 12 x 14 x 9 cm
$715
"Through the practice of single-pointed concentration of the mind, the mind becomes spacious and subtle - able to grasp the reality that this body is a series of processes with no thing that can be called a 'self.' Seeing through this illusion, the spirits are lifted and joy and peace arise."

Orlando TISATO
148. Trinity
Acrylic on Canvas, 220 x 201 cm
NFS
"Orlando is a painter from the Umbria region in Italy, whose work dates back to the 1940's and is exhibited across Italy, France & USA. In 1996, during a visit to Australia, he was captivated by his brother's garden and, in particular, the red claret ash tree that is the garden's centre piece, under which he would regularly meditate and muse at the stars and moon. He found the space so wonderful that he converted it, on a warm December night in 1996, into an open air theatre in which he created this Trinity painting, in performance while dancing to music before a captive audience."

149. Wind, Fire and Water
Water-based Paints on Silk, 86 x 179 cm
$1000
"Three elements, three symbols of the spiritual realm. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind and there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit... Drink of this water and you will never thirst again, but will become as a fountain of living water springing up into everlasting life."
|
|

|
150. Eden
Water-based Paints on Silk, 86 x 179 cm
$1000
"My works explore the notion of life in the Spirit. To be controlled by human nature, results in death; to be controlled by the Spirit results in life and peace."
|

151. Clowning for Christ
Water Colour, 25 x 26 cm
NFS
"Ministry through a dramatic presentation of the Christian message by means of clowning, which appeared to the local children who participated in the 1999 Almond Blossom Festival. They handed out lifesavers with a smile and witnessed that Christ is a lifesaver."

152. Not a Parallel Universe
Mixed, 122 x 91 cm
$750
"Appearances can be deceiving, a poor reflection of reality. In urban and suburban busyness it often seems like human activities and consumer priorities occupy the whole of reality. I have often found it hard to remember that God is always alongside, awesome but benevolent, understanding, and wanting to give fuller dimensions to each of our lives, part of life, not a parallel universe. Hurray for times of reflection (beyond glass)."

153. Here We Are..+..Send Us!
Mixed Fabrics, Hand- & Machine-sewn Quilt, 165 x 240 cm
NFS
"The theme for UCA Assembly 2000 is taken from Isaiah 6. The hem of God's robe filled the temple and the Lord says 'whom shall I send, who will go for us'. We respond, 'Here we are send us'. We go from the sanctity of the temple, eagerly in our many hued envelopes, into God's amazing colourful world to tell of the Lord's love and saving power."
|
|

|
154. Time...To Be
Mixed Fabrics, Hand- & Machine-sewn Quilt, 150 x 227 cm
NFS
"Celebrating Port Adelaide's UCA Jubilee - 150 years. To depict the movement and spirit of the Port congregation and church I chose to side step the precision of the quilt making process and work in an unstructured way using eye, hand and scissors directly on the cloth. The pictures evolved as I worked. Celebrations are an integral part of Church life as is reaching out to others in the community."

155. The Music Room I
Gouache & Pastel, 46 x 62 cm
$650

|
|

|
156. The Music Room II
Gouache & Pastel, 66 x 84 cm
$980
"David as a young boy had the ability to play music and quieten Saul's aggravation. Music has power to soothe our spirits."
|
|

|
157. Australian Madonna & Child
Gouache & Pastel, 84 x 64 cm
$980
"Madonna has the meaning 'respected woman.' Mother and child is a subject that has been venerated for a long time including Isis, Astarti and Diana. The Catholic Church has worshipped this image, not without reason. After the Reformation, Protestants rejected it as having pagan origins. There may have been a decline because of this objection of respect for women among the newly formed churches. In this work I am searching for a new meaning for the old image of Mother & Child and placing it in the context of Australia's culture."
