Past Archaeology

While there has been extensive archaeological work in this region, Colossae has remained intact. There is no evidence of previous systematic archaeological work at Colossae, though some parts of the site have been disturbed, presumably by treasure hunters. No archaeological excavations of this site have been undertaken.

Surface surveys, however, indicate tantilising evidence of an acropolis, necropolis, and other ruins nearby, but the tell itself remains an untouched site.
