Karen Vered has been awarded an Australian Learning and Teaching Citation in 2008 and the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2007.

Research interests
Karen Orr Vered researches and writes about television, interactive media, and children's media practices.

With John McConchie, Dr. Vered recently gave a paper on Super Nanny at Consoling Passions: Conference on Television and Feminism.
In 2007 Dr. Vered undertook a research exchange in Sweden where she looked into what Swedish children were doing with media in fritids, their equivalent of after-school care. The trip was funded by a Swedish Exchange fellowship through the Swedish Royal Academy of Letters, History and Antiquities and the Australian Academy of Humanities.
Dr. Vered also writes about television and has co-authored, with John McConchie, an article on the Logie Award published in Continuum. An essay on television’s new media aesthetic appears in Convergence.
Dr. Vered earned her Ph.D. from University of Southern California in Critical Studies of Cinema and Television. She also has an MA in Cultural Anthropology from Temple University and a BA in Communications from UC San Diego.
