Department of Screen and Media
In the Department of Screen and Media, we study screen media including film, television, and digital media. We offer students experiences that allow them to examine these industries critically and to work in them creatively.
Across a wide range of analytical, theoretical and historial topics we examine screen media as artistic enterprises, textual systems, industrial systems and instruments of ideology. We investigate the economics of entertainment and information and consider contemporary media in their historical and cultural contexts.
The Department of Screen and Media offers a substantial range of production and scriptwriting opportunities in video, film, and computer-based media for short drama, documentary, and experimental works. Production practice is supported by industry mentors, master classes and workshops.
The Department of Screen and Media offers topics within the Bachelor of Arts, the Bachelor of Creative Arts, the Master of Creative Arts and the Master Program in Natural History Filmmaking. Some students take Screen and Media topics as part of broader, more diversified degree programs, while others major in Screen and Media with a view to pursuing careers in film, television, digital games, arts administration or online industries.
Eligible postgraduate students may undertake research degrees within the Department of Screen and Media leading to a Master of Arts or a Doctor of Philosophy qualification.
The Flinders University Department of Screen and Media offers Adelaide’s largest and most diverse tertiary program in the study of audiovisual media, and is one of the most respected and successful in Australia.
