| Research Guidelines
The general purpose of the Centre is to promote and carry out research
in the general field of Applied Philosophy.
The Centre for Applied Philosophy provides a focus for ongoing research
in the application of philosophical principles in community debates and
issues of public policy. It also aims to provide a forum for discussion
of public policy issues between philosophers and practising professionals
which should lead to interactions between the University and the wider
community in the development of public policy positions. The Centre aims
to publish collections which focus on policy issues in an Australian context.
The Centre seeks to encourage both individual and collaborative, cross-institutional
research by -
* encouraging collaborative projects
* attracting funding for such projects
* organizing conferences and forums around themes of ongoing research
* promoting interchange with government and industry on public policy
issues promoting the publication of research results and liaising with
other research centres in Australia and overseas with an interest in Applied
Philosophy..
Details of recent and forthcoming CAP activities, conferences and publications
can be found under the relevant headings on the CAP Homepage.
The Centre has also established a Consultancy service which aims to provide
input into public and private sector policy decisions, concentrating on
those areas which have ethical implications or which involve ethical dilemmas.
Areas in which we currently have expertise are:-
* environmental ethics
* medical ethics
* industrial relations/business ethics
* heritage issues
* gender issues/Affirmative Action policy
* human rights advocacy.
We are also interested in collaborating in joint research projects with
those working or teaching in these fields. This may involve joint applications
for grants or joint input on specifically funded projects.
CAP Membership
We are seeking interested parties as associate members among researchers
and professionals from other universities, tertiary institutions, public
and private research bodies and governmental and semi-governmental authorities
in Australia and overseas working in the area of applied philosophy. We
do have a mailing list of non-members who are interested in being kept
informed of the Centre's activities. This is updated at regular intervals.
If you are interested, please print off and return the pdf form below
to let us know what association, if any, you wish to have with the Centre
for Applied Philosophy at Flinders and what your areas of interest are.
