Support for Visiting Scholars:
International Visiting Scholar Program
Academics from outside Australia who are planning to take sabbatical leave are invited to apply for the honorary position of Visiting Scholar in the School of Law at Flinders University.
The School is keen to support international collaboration and has a productive history of assisting the research of visiting academics in law and criminology in recent years. Through the new International Visiting Scholar Program our staff can ensure that visiting academics are directed towards the relevant intellectual resources of the university and the state, and offered support with the research process.
The School can often offer comfortable and centrally located office accommodation, arrange membership of the library and provide relevant resources, such as computer, email and telephone access to support the research project. The university may be able to provide some help in finding accommodation in Adelaide. Where visitors are engaged in collaborative research with members of the Law School, they may also be eligible for financial support to cover the cost of airfares from their home to Australia.
Visiting Scholars will be expected to take part in School research activities, give a research seminar to staff and graduate students and acknowledge Flinders University in any publications that result from their period as Visiting Scholar. Where scholars have the equivalent of Australian full professorial status at their home institution, they will be granted Visiting Professor status. The International Visiting Scholar Program is a new scheme but the School of Law has previously hosted a number of professorial and senior visitors including:
Professor Janet Walker (Osgoode Hall, Canada), Professor Peter Lown (University of Alberta, Canada), Professor Paul Rock (LSE, United Kingdom), Professor Mark Mildred (Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom), Professor Rebecca Bailey-Harris (Bristol University, United Kingdom), Professor Michael King (Brunel University, United Kingdom), Professor Gordon Hughes (Open University, United Kingdom), Dr Caroline Hunter (Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom), Dr Judy Nixon (Sheffield Hallam University, United Kingdom), Gavin Dingwall (De Montfort University, United Kingdom), Professor Theodore Eisenberg (Cornell University, United States), Professor Tom Rowe (Duke University, United States), Professor Susan French (UCLA, United States), Professor David Friedrichs (University of Scranton, United States), Professor David Burdette (University of Pretoria, South Africa), Associate Professor Andrew Alston (University of Canterbury, New Zealand) and Associate Professor Tom Madell (Umeå University, Sweden), Professor Kevat Nousiainen (University of Helsinki, Finland), Professor Anu Pylkkanen (University of Helsinki, Finland).
