Judge Peter McCusker was appointed in June 2004 as a Visiting Scholar in the Law School. His Honour is a Judge on the Industrial Relations Court of South Australia, appointed to that office in January 1990. His current appointments also include Judge of the District Court of South Australia, Deputy President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission, of the Industrial Relations Commission of South Australia, and of the Workers Compensation Tribunal of South Australia. His Honour’s primary responsibility is in all matters of employment law. However in 2006 his Honour was a visiting scholar at the Magee Campus of the University of Northern Ireland (Derry) studying issues of the recognition and treatment of native title in the common law including an examination of the extinguishment of native (Gaelic) title at the time of the Ulster Plantations and comparing it with the other colonial approaches to native title at the period. His Honour also studied the period of early colonial Australia in the light of that history.
