Mark studied law at the University of Adelaide, the University of Melbourne, and the University of South Australia, and was admitted to practice in 1992. In 1993, he completed a Diploma in Social Sciences (Women's Studies) at Flinders University, and in 1996 he completed a Master of Laws by dissertation at Flinders University. Mark's research interests include moral and political philosophy, political and legal history, constitutional law, criminal law, feminist jurisprudence, civil litigation and legal theory. Mark is currently enrolled in a PhD at Flinders University, and continues to practice as a barrister and solicitor on a part-time basis. Mark teaches in the topics History and Philosophy of Law, Principles of Criminal Law and Procedure, Issues in Criminal Law, Evidence, Lawyering:Procedures and Ethics, Civil Litigation, and Consumer Protection and Unfair Trading.
