Kathy joined the Law School in 1996 from the University of Adelaide. Previously, she practised law in California . Her interests are courts and judicial officers, dispute resolution, feminist legal theory, evidence, legal education and criminal procedure. Kathy has been involved with the skills programmes in the LLB/LP, especially in the first year. In 1997 she won a grant from the national committee for University Teaching and Staff Development which assisted the law school to develop ways to encourage students to become more reflective learners, especially in relation to practical skills. Publications include a monograph on court-connected alternative dispute resolution as well as articles on gender bias and the judiciary, legal education, and feminist perspectives on evidence and proof. She has written a book and articles (co-authored with Professor Sharyn Roach-Anleu) examining discussions and agreements leading to guilty pleas. Kathy in collaboration with Professor Sharyn Roach-Anelue is currently engaged in a national research project examining the changing role of the magistrates court and a national socio-legal study of the Australian judiciary as a whole. This research has been funded by an ARC Linkage-Project Grant, with all magistrates courts and the Association of Australian Magistrates as industry partners, and an ARC Discovery Grant.
