Ea came to the Law School as a PhD candidate in 1999 from the position of Director of Medical Services at the Repatriation General Hospital. In the Law School she has conducted empirical research into the frequency with which breaches of confidence arise from health services and auditing the compliance of medical records systems with the National Privacy Principles of the Privacy Act 1988.
This research was supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award, a research grant from the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners and a Flinders University PG2 Grant. Her findings have been presented at the Australian College of Health Service Executives Annual Congress in 2000, the General Practice & Primary Health Care Research and National Privacy conferences in 2001 and the Australian and New Zealand Public Health Association Annual Conference in 2002. Her work has been published in the Australian Health Review (Protecting Patient Confidentiality in Hospitals 1998 21(3) 67-77), the Australian Family Physician (Application of the Privacy Principles to General Practice 2001 3:2;189-192) and the Medical Journal of Australia (Confidentiality in Health Records; Evidence of current performance from a population survey of South Australians 2001 174 (12) 637-640).
Ea is a general practitioner, has specialist qualifications in medical administration and acts as a surveyor for the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards. Her special interest areas include quality improvement in health, clinical governance and abortion service provision. She currently enjoys academic status as a Research Associate in the Law School.
