Alan has lived several lives as a psychiatric nurse, as a marketing director for international pharmaceutical and surgical supply companies, as a health counsellor, and as an owner and manager of motel, catering and photographic businesses. He came to Flinders at the end of 1992, the School's first year of operation, having taught in the Faculty of Law at Griffith University as its Senior Teaching Fellow during its first year of operation. He was admitted as a barrister and solicitor to the Supreme Court of South Australia and to the High Court in 1991. Alan's interests are in all aspects of succession law and legal skills. He teaches in those areas as well as in administrative law and civil procedure, using his practice experience as a context for teaching.
