School of Law: Postgraduate Education

Postgraduate Coursework Degrees

A new postgraduate program, the Master of Laws (International Law and International Relations) commences in 2008. The 36 unit program is a joint initiative which combines the teaching expertise of the School of Law, and the School of Political and International Studies. The course will be offered intensively at Canberra and Adelaide. It is open to non-Law as well as to Law graduates. Postgraduate Research Degrees

A postgraduate research degree is more than just studying. It is a path to in-depth knowledge and unique expertise in your chosen field. In addition, studying for an research masters or doctorate will help:

  • Enhance skills and develop new ones (independent study, research skills)

  • Demonstrate to future employers an ability to cope with heavy workload and to self-motivate

  • Develop expertise that only a few have in the world

  • Gain an internationally-recognised qualification

Students wishing to undertake postgraduate research in law may enrol in the degrees of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) or Master of Laws (LLM) by thesis. Those wishing to write a thesis on a subject relating to criminal justice also have the option of enrolling in a Master of Arts (MA) by thesis. Several scholarships are offered by Flinders University each year that cover both fees and provide an allowance. Students who are resident in Australia may be eligible for the:

Australian Postgraduate Awards (APAs)

Flinders University Research Scholarships (FURS)

Joyner Scholarships in Law, Medicine and Science
