Discovery and Establishment:

In March 1973, a Formicinae ant named Guandarn Gestober discovered this piece of fertile and highly desirable land after being exiled from his homeland of Pertanalor on a charge of treason. He built a house for himself, and returned to Pertanalor under the cover of darkness. He was well respected by the Pertanalor workers and 4000 Formicinae ants followed him back to his new land that day. In April 1973, Guandarn Gestober was crowned King of the new Kingdom of Humalawnaria.

The city of Nuropolia was established in the north of Humalawnaria in May 1973 and by January 1975, the population of the kingdom had grown to 15,000.

Guandarn Gestober provided a land of freedom where the working class were not restricted to manual labor, but were granted free education at the new Humalawnaria campus of Flinders University. However by March 1977, the educated population rose to 97%, leaving only 3% of the population who were willing to undertake manual labor.

The Slave Trade:

In May 1977, to curb this crisis, King Gestober sent three of his most gallant noblemen: Hertrald Penstock, Danuald Betre and Fertald Mostolo; on individual quests to find a ‘solution’ to the labour problem.

Fertald Mostolo returned in December 1977 with news that a kingdom of Ponerinae ants, who were known for their strength and inferior intelligence, was situated not far to the south of Humalawnaria.

In January 1978, a party of 2000 heavily armed ants set off from Humalawnaria. It took them two months to reach Gesnalt, the kingdom of the Ponerinae ants. The party launched a surprise attack in March 1978 and gained control of the kingdom, executing its Queen Dornalias Mudupu. They also captured and imprisoned 5000 Ponerinae ants. These captured ants were forced to build a detention centre for themselves, then to commence work on a railway to connect Gesnalt with Humalawnaria.

The railway was completed in August 1979, and started transporting the Ponerinae slaves to Humalawnaria soon after.

In January 1982, the population of the Kingdom of Humalawnaria grew to a total of 900,000. 500,000 were Ponerinae slaves and the other 400,000 were free, educated citizens.

The Revolt:

In June 1985, a huge unrest broke out amongst the slave class, many of whom had been granted the heavily restricted ‘conditional freedom’ status. Street rioting continued right throughout June and July. In the following months, many of the slaves took up arms and open warfare broke out in the street. 100,000 ants were killed in September 1985 alone.

In late October 1985, a band of Ponerinae rebels broke into the royal palace and murdered King Gestober in his sleep along with most of his family and advisors. The only royal who survived the massacre was Gestober’s third Daughter Pertiofony Gestober. She was coronated in a secret ceremony early the next morning, then she went into hiding.
