Peter Carey is one of the leading Australian, and indeed world, authors writing today. His work, which ranges from science fiction to gothic romance and everywhere in between, continues to receive both popular and academic acclaim. He is perhaps most widely known for his 1988 Booker Prize winning Oscar and Lucinda, and has recently (August 1997) released Jack Maggs, the story, inspired in part by Dickens' Great Expectations, of a convict returning "home" to England. This site provides information about Carey's life and work, and details of where you can read more.
