Environments and Ecologies Symposium
Environments and Ecologies in an Expanded Field is a symposium that will focus on the exploration and generation of critical and engaged approaches to this growing area of transdisciplinary study. The field is informed by the dominance of postindustrial economic models in the west, expanding on scientific models to address the heterogeneity of contemporary globalism and locality. What constitutes ecology and environment, and what can be gained from considering ontological, political, or ethical questions through these concepts? What understandings can be enabled by working with the complexity of an environment that takes account of waste, media, technology, noise, degradation, urban constructions and critical regionalism, as well as more traditional criteria? Can the ecological be a motif for transdiciplinarity itself, for instance? The aim is to encourage connections across disciplines, research centres and institutions, giving prominence to the possibilities and tensions of knowledge as part of an environment.
