Super Peer Theory

This theory proposes that the media can represent a persuasive and effective source of information for adolescents as to what constitutes normative behaviour (Strasburger & Wilson, 2002; Strasburger, 2002). Additionally it may indeed exceed the influence on an adolescent than their traditional peer group (Strasburger, 1997).

The effect of exposure to the attitudes and behaviours portrayed in television may be condensed buy the glamour classically associated with those appearing in it (both the characters and those playing them) (Escobar-Chaves, 2006). That is these characters on television of whom are usually with 2-3 years older than the target viewing group (adolescents) become role models.
