How Art Develops

As a child grows and develops, so too does their art. Each child goes through different stages, often at similar ages. Of course, not all children reach the same artistic developmental stage at exactly the same age.

The following pages highlight what can generally be seen in different stages, providing examples at each level. Developmental stages are also evident in paint and clay manipulations, so these are also discussed. This section also highlights what to do if a child seems to be behind in their art development.
