Introduction

In this website we will be looking at Children's Development through Art, with a focus on Drawing Skills. We shall take you through the actual developmental stages of drawing and gender differences that we have observed.

Also, we'll be looking at the implications this has for the teacher and how they can provide children with ways of development when they don't reach a certain level.

Drawing by Margarita age 6.

Through children's art skills, you can see the relation in other areas of development, such as: emotional, social, physical, cognitive and language.

Children draw in predictable ways, going through fairly definite stages, starting with the first marks on paper, and progressing through to adolescence.

It is sometimes difficult to tell where one stage of development stops and one begins. Not all children move from one stage to another at exactly the same time.
