The second year of Italian consists of 5 hours of classes per week throughout the two semesters : 2 hours of culture and 3 hours of language classes divided, as in first year, according to level ("A" or "B"). One of these language hours is devoted entirely to aural-oral practice in tutorial groups. Each semester topic is designed to strengthen and extend the students' linguistic proficiency in the four basic skills (listening, speaking, reading and writing) acquired at Level I, and to provide further study in the area of Italian society and culture.
Commensurate with their language level, students develop further their knowledge of spoken and written Italian through the study of contemporary Italian usage, with practice in a variety of skills and methods that include aural-oral communication, composition, reading, language drills, computer-assisted learning. The culture component consists of the reading and discussion of Italian texts set in their social context.
Assessment includes oral and written tests and assignments, during and at the end of the semester. For further information, please visit the relevant entries in the topic calendar.
