The Department of Languages at Flinders University has been active in teaching, research and scholarship in the area of modern European languages and cultures since the foundation of the University in 1966.

Currently the Department offers three-year courses in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish. The language topics may be taken as part of a Bachelor of Arts, as topics in other degree programs, or as the major (three years) that makes up the Diploma in Language. Language topics in French, Italian, Modern Greek and Spanish are also available as part of the Graduate Diploma in Language , the Graduate Certificate in Language Teaching and Graduate Diploma in Language Teaching.

Flinders staff offer some of the above languages also at the University of Adelaide and at the University of South Australia as part of an Outreach Program.

Indonesian is offered at Flinders University by the Flinders Asia Centre.
