Title A Study of Youth in the Greek Diaspora

With the baby boomers generation of Australia fast approaching the age of retirement, it is their children and grandchildren who are now responsible for retaining and passing down the traditions of their cultures. However, despite the existence of nearly 250 Greek organisations and brotherhoods in Australia, only a handful of those actively involve Australian-Greek youth and aim to motivate the youth to continue running these organisations and producing positive outcomes within their communities. The aim of this paper is to discuss the challenges facing youth in the Greek diaspora, primarily in Australia and further, review the ideology of an American-Greek organisation, Hellenext, whose mission is to invest in the youth of the next generation and provide them with the tools, knowledge and opportunities to challenge themselves to aim higher and make positive contributions to the world and their communities.
