Title “ An hour away from war?” British military initiatives in Cyprus during the Turkish invasion of 1974.

The paper aims to examine the role played by the British military in Cyprus during the tragic events of the Turkish invasion of July and August 1974. Using unpublished British sources, it presents the transfer of British forces to the island, the actions taken and the initiatives proposed by the British side, as well as the outcome of these actions. The resulting analysis sheds some light to the interaction of great and small powers in Cyprus, during the 1974 events.
