Undergraduate Programs Archaeology home

Archaeology is available to undergraduate students through several degree programs.

Students can undertake a major in Archaeology as part of an ordinary (three year) degree through either a Bachelor of Arts, or a Bachelor of Science, depending on their area of interest. A more specialised, professionally-oriented program is available through the Bachelor of Archaeology, which is run in conjunction with Adelaide University's Departments of Classics and Anatomical Sciences and the University of South Australia's Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Flinders is one of only three universities in Australia to offer a specialised Bachelor of Archaeology degree.

In addition, Archaeology links with the Bachelor of Cultural Tourism, Bachelor of Technology (Ecotourism), and Bachelor of Technology (Forensic and Analytical Chemistry) degrees, providing students with a range of career options.

Undergraduate students are eligible to apply to study archaeology abroad on a Flinders Exchange program, for either 1 or 2 semesters.  For more information, contact the International Office , or download the brief information pamphlet.

Many students look to gain extra experience in archaeology by volunteering on digs, in the lab, or on field projects.  In the third year of their degree students can gain credit for this work via the topic ARCH3203: Archaeology in the Field.  Simply buy a log book now from Lis Jansson in the Archaeology office and start recording all your volunteer work - at the very least it makes a great record of previous work experience when you apply for a job.
