General Information about the Graduate Program in Archaeology Course
The course has been designed so that it can be tailored to a particular specialisation, such as rock art studies, or Indigenous archaeology, or can simply function as a generic program that is made up of a varied range of topics. For example, within a Graduate Certificate, a rock art specialisation might look like:
ARCH8505 Australian Rock Art ARCH8502 Australian Rock Art Field School ARCH8501 Ethnoarchaeology in Aboriginal Australia Field School
This specialisation could then be extended and complemented through completion of a Graduate Diploma and Graduate Masters, for example:
Graduate Certificate:
ARCH8505 Australian Rock Art ARCH8502 Australian Rock Art Field School ARCH8501 Ethnoarchaeology in Aboriginal Australia Field School
Graduate Diploma:
Graduate Certificate plus ARCH8503 Advanced Field School ARCH8509 Archaeology of Indigenous Australia ARCH8014 Issues in Indigenous Heritage Management
Graduate Masters:
Graduate Diploma plus ARCH8506 Archaeology Thesis

However, applicants with other qualifications may be accepted under certain circumstances, at the discretion of the Course Coordinator. In some cases where prior archaeological knowledge is limited, candidates may be required to take two introductory level archaeology courses in order to become familiar with the major issues and debates in the field.
