    Assignment Detail Page:

Project Title : Rising Sun Inn, Kensington Download
    Assignment Type : Property (house/land)
    First Name : Diana
    Last Name: Baric
    Date Range: 1851-1900
Why: I have always had an interest in the old pubs of Adelaide, as I have worked in several. The Rising Sun Inn is a particular favourite, as I used to live and drink in the area.
Summary : Several interesting connections: William Beck, the first owner, ran the first mode of public transport (one-horse spring cart) from Kensington to Adelaide; Sir Edwin T Smith, popular mayor of Kensington and member for parliament in the late 1800s once owned the pub.
Limitations :Had hoped to find more evidence of structural changes over time, such as blueprints or site plans, but these were not forthcoming. Several holes in the historical record, and council assessment records not enitirely accurate.
Issues Raised : Facade constructed in 1868 still incorporated into original structure, but due to scarcity of structural records, it is unknown whether more of the original structure exists.
