What to pack
Due to restrictions on space in the 4WD’s taking us to Kunbarlanja, baggage is strictly limited to one backpack (maximum 10 kilograms), one computer bag, and one small backpack (maximum 5 kilograms). All bags will be weighed in Darwin and those exceeding these limits will be told to re-pack and donate excess to a local charity. Staff will be happy to assist international students find storage facilities in Darwin for extra baggage required for their stay in Australia.
General
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Female hygiene products (tampons etc.)
- Deodorant
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Soap
- Razor
- Personal Medication (i.e. ventolin and paracetamol)
- Sunscreen
- Mosquito Repellent (strong)
- Hat (wide brim)
- Sunglasses
- 1-2 Litre Water Bottle
- Camera (no film available in Kunbarlanja)
- Field Notebook (A5 size, hard cover with solid spine, not spiral binding)
- Stationary (pens, pencils, erasers, coloured pencils, ruler)
- Torch
- Small Back Pack (for carrying to sites)
- Photographs of family and friends to share with our hosts
- Spending money (to purchase any souvenirs)
- Mosquito net for your bed
- Bedding (sheets or a sleeping bag and a light blanket)
Clothing
The following is a guide to the type of clothing needed for Kunbarlanja (remembering temperature will be around 33C and washing machines are available daily):
- One jumper/sweater
- One pair of pants
- One pair of shorts or a skirt (covers the knees)
- One light long sleeve shirt (sun and mosquito protection)
- Socks and underwear
- Boots (must cover ankles)
- Slip-on Shoes (for the evenings)
- T-shirts
- One small towel/sarong
- Bathers (must be modest – men and women should bring a summer dress/shorts and t-shirt to wear over bathers for swimming)
