Her principal research areas include Indigenous archaeology, vertebrate analysis of cave assemblages and middens, Cultural Heritage Management of Indigenous places, interpretation and presentation of tourist places and the contribution of oral history to archaeology. Dr Walshe is currently completing research in the Far West and Kangaroo Island.

Dr Walshe has also been recently involved with National Parks and Wildlife and the local Kaurna and Njarrendgeri people in a survey of the southern coastal and dune regions of Kangaroo Island.

Keryn was Vice Chair of the South Australian chapter for Australian Association of Consulting Archaeologists Inc., President of the Anthropology Association, South Australia, a member of Australian Archaeology Association and was 'Short Reports' Editor for the associated journal Australian Archaeology.

She is currently working as Collections Manager for the South Australian Museum and has recently worked as a consultant in her own business called TimeMap.
