History
The whale fishery developed at Port
Elliot was the Freemans Nob whaling station. In 1840 a proposal to
establish a whale fishery on the Nob was put forward by Hack and Company,
but it is not known whether the station was developed as a slaughter or
storage facility.
Archaeology
No archaeological work has taken
place at Freemans Nob due to the lack of knowledge regarding the station.
There is however no trace of a whaling station at the site toady.
