The whale fishery developed at Port Elliot was the Freemans Nob whaling station. In 1840 a proposal  to establish a whale fishery on the Nob was put forward by Hack and Company, but it is not known whether the station was developed as a slaughter or storage facility.

Archaeology

No archaeological work has taken place at Freemans Nob due to the lack of knowledge regarding the station. There is however no trace of a whaling station at the site toady.
